Las Vegas Drone Flying
Locations Map
1. Seven Magic Mountains
The Seven Magic Mountains is an exciting art exhibit south of Las Vegas, close to Jean Dry Lake. The work is by Swiss artist Ugo Rondiones. It features 7 brightly-colored vertically stacked boulder structures. Each piece stands at around 35ft and commands attention.
Love them or not, it’s impossible to look away. The Seven Magic Mountains against the Mojave Desert landscape makes a fascinating subject for dramatic drone photography. The artwork is unlikely to be there forever, which makes capturing this vibrant structure even more valuable.
2. Red Rock Canyon
The massive red rock formations of The Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area are spectacular. Drone enthusiasts who find themselves in Clark County, Nevada, should visit here. Aerial shots of the towering sandstone peaks and Keystone Thrust Fault guarantees epic footage. Another fascinating sight here is the Native American petroglyphs. The surrounding Mojave Desert landscape and other major attractions in the area make this corner of Nevada truly mesmerizing.
While flying in the uncontrolled airspace at Calico Basin by Red Rocks is beautiful and technically legal, we urge all visiting pilots to show extreme caution and respect for this sensitive area which is very popular with hikers, picnickers, families, yoga groups, and weddings. Therefore, we are asked to not launch or land at the Red Spring Picnic area but rather from the Kraft Parking Lot just down the road. This is a dirt parking lot.
This is a great place to fly at sunrise and sundown, but make sure to maintain VLOS and do not fly north over Kraft Mtn into the wilderness area as noted on the maps. Watch out for high winds up at the ridgeline towards Red Rocks. Please stay away from the boardwalk at Red Springs again because of Karen.
If leaving your vehicle, do not leave any valuables inside because of a rash of break-ins at this location, just stay nearby and fly safe.
3. Lake Las Vegas
The 320-acre Lake Las Vegas (also Lake Las Vegas Resort) is an artificial lake in Henderson, NV. It took three billion US gallons of water to fill, diverted from the nearby Lake Mead. Beautiful lakes—whether natural or manmade—promise serene views when caught on camera drones. Lake Las Vegas has the added attraction of being surrounded by the scenic desert mountains.
4. Cornerstone Park
Most would agree that the 100-acre Cornerstone Park is one of Henderson’s most scenic areas. The focal point is its tranquil 31-acre Railroad Lake set against the mountainous backdrop. The park also offers scenic trails around the lake that take in the gorgeous views and local wildlife. Other attractions include sports facilities, covered and uncovered picnic spots, and an exercise zone. The open grass area is an ideal space to safely launch and land drones.
5. Potosi Mountain South
Potosi Mountain South in Spring Mountains Clark County, is a high pass well over 8,000ft above sea level (ASL). There is a track up to the summit, but access is hard going. Not only is there a lot of loose gravel in places, but it’s also incredibly steep and narrow. The route passes several old shelter caves and mines on the slopes, including the oldest zinc and lead Potosi Lode Mine. Keep going., though. The views from the summit are what every drone photographer dreams of.
6. Eldorado Canyon
Below Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam, Eldorado Canyon is a beautiful place to fly your drone.
7. Las Vegas Soaring Club
This is a great place to fly fixed-wing drones. There’s a paved runaway and miles of space free from homes and traffic. This location is an Academy of Model Aeronautics sanctioned club, which means that you need to become a member to use the facilities here.
