1. Rosedale Park

Rosedale Park is popular for its skatepark and as a venue for events like festivals and car shows. When the park isn’t hosting crowd-drawing events, its vast space is perfect for drone flight. Make sure to check the park schedule before you come here, and stay awy from the nearby fire station.

2. Padre Park

Padre Park in East Pyron is a popular place for those who want to take a serene walk along the San Antonio river. There usually aren’t a lot of people here, so you should be able to fly a drone in relative peace. The park is beautiful and well-maintained with lots of walking trails and forested areas.

3. Olmos Basin Park

The Olmos Basin Park has a network of biking and walking trails, forested areas, the Olmos Creek, baseball fields, and a soccer field. It is a great place to fly a drone with its huge spaces and scenic views. Keep in mind that Highway 281 cuts across the park, so be conscientious about where you’re flying over.

4. Comanche Lookout Park

The green, scenic 96-acre Comanche Lookout Park in Bexar County has a unique vantage point. Its highest point reaches 1,340 feet, and on top of the hill is the stone four-story Comanche Tower. Retired Army Col. Edward R. Coppock built the lookout in 1928, inspired by Europe’s medieval structures. The tower, its surrounding views, and a little imagination can create some exciting aerial drone footage of this unusual scenery.

This park is also a refreshing place to be when you’re not flying drones. It has picturesque trails that extend over 4 miles and a range of fitness stations for folks who like to exercise outdoors.

5. Denman Estate Park

San Antonio’s 21-acre Denman Estate Park is an idyllic spot. The main attraction is the large pond, shaded by mature oak trees and a Korean pavilion on its bank. South Korea gave the Gwangju pavilion to San Antonio to celebrate the friendship, cooperation, and business ties between them. Other park attractions include a scenic trail and the large open green field for recreation activities. Drone pilots can capture some truly picturesque footage here.

6. Southside Lions Park

The Southside Lions Park is a sprawling park with a baseball field, walking trails, dog park, and swimming pool. The lookout, trail, and lake sections are best for drone flight. There is lots of space here to explore and scenery to photograph with a drone.

7. Crownridge Canyon Park

If you’re looking for a drone flight spot with dense vegetation, then the Crownridge Canyon Park should fit the bill. The park features hiking trails and open spaces amidst beautiful desert scenery. The hike here isn’t particularly challenging. If you avoid coming here on weekends, you should be able to fly drones in the park while avoiding the crowds.

8. Woodlawn Lake Park

The eponymous Woodlawn Lake is likely the central piece of attraction in this park for drone pilots. Surrounding the lake is a vast green area with a network of walking trails and picnic spots. The miniature lighthouse in the middle of the lake is quite an interesting photo subject.

9. Travis Park

The 1860 Travis Park is officially one of the oldest US municipal parks, but with a modern concept. That’s thanks to a bunch of improvements in recent times that transformed the space. Today, the park prides itself on hosting over 100 annual events. Some of those include public rallies, religious gatherings, music festivals, and so on.

Its appeal for drone videography is the scenic green spaces and views of downtown San Antonio. However, chancing upon the park when it is not crowded or otherwise occupied can be a bit of a challenge. Traffic around the park is usually heavy, so flying your drone around the surrounding streets is likely out of the question. It’s best to just do some light drone flight practice here.

10. Castroville Regional Park

The Castroville Regional Park is a short drive west of San Antonio. It’s a popular site for camping, stargazing, and hiking. When there are no games, the sports fields offer lots of space for drone flight. The surroundings woods and nearby lake also provide great scenic shots for aerial photography.

11. James Kiehl Natural Area

This serene 25 acre park features grasslands and woodlands. It's on the banks of the Guadlope River and there are few obstacles that in the area. This is a great place to fly if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

12. Raymond Russell Park

This is a small park with Interstate 10 on one side and homes on the other. Although it's small it's a decent place to get some stick time.
