San Juan Drone Flying
Locations Map
1. Playa Parchola
Playa Parchola is just one of several beaches on the shores west of San Juan. It’s a very large beach, so looking for a spot to fly your drone should not be hard.
2. Ria Bayamon Lineal Park
The Rio Bayamon park is popular mostly for bikers and runners because of its 9-kilometer trail. While we don’t advise flying a drone over the trail, there is enough open space on either side of it for safe drone flight. The park also runs beside the Rio Hondo river, which you can safely traverse with a drone.
3. Isla de Cabras
Isla de Cabras is an islet in San Juan Bay where the historical El Canuelo fort is located. Today, it is a popular recreation spot with a park and gazebos. This is also one of the closest areas to San Juan where you can fly your drone without going into the LMM Airport No-Fly Zone.
4. Mirador Gavillan
Mirador Gavillan is best-known as a vista point that overlooks the rest of San Juan. While you can take beautiful photos here with a regular camera, you can do even better with a drone. It is an excellent take-off spot if you want to take photos and videos of the immediate surroundings. However, Mirador Gavillan has been damaged by the hurricane a few years ago and has not yet been rehabilitated to its previous condition.
5. Balneario Punta Salinas
Balneario Punta Salinas is a fairly quiet beach located less than half an hour away from San Juan. With its huge waves, it is a popular spot for surfing. Barbecues are quite common in the beach area, but it is large enough for you to safely fly a drone. It is within the controlled airspace of the LMM airport so make sure to get LAANC authorization.
6. Mar Chiquita Beach
Mar Chiquita is one of the most recognizable beaches in Puerto Rico, making it a very good reason to bring your drone on a trip. The turquoise water crashing on the sandy beach is but a backdrop to surfers and snorkelers who flock here regularly. There is lots of parking here and the beach rarely gets crowded, despite being very popular. Just an overheat shot of the Mar Chiquita Beach will make your trip worth it.
