Newark Drone Flying
Locations Map

1. Emerson Woods

The 19-acre preserve just off Main Street has a densely forested area for nature walks. These look great when photographed from a distance, so you might want to look for a clearing to launch your drone and fly over the nearby reservoir. Finding an open space to safely take off could be quite a challenge.

2. Staten Island Boat Graveyard

The marine scrapyard off the coast of Staten Island is visible either from the New Jersey or New York sides. It's one of the more unique sights that you can explore and document with a drone. While this place is openly visible, it isn't exactly accessible to the public. Be respectful and try to keep a healthy distance away from the scrapyard.

3. Raritan Bay Waterfront Park

The waterfront park is the perfect spot if you want to take a peaceful walk with a gorgeous view of the bay. It's also one of the best spots for catching the sunrise. The wide open spaces provide several options for where you can safely launch and land a drone. Be mindful of other visitors - this is typically a very quiet park.

4. Brookdale Park

Brookdale Park is one of the most diverse green spaces in the city in terms of the activities that it offers. Aside from the network of walking trails, the park has sports fields, tennis courts, playgrounds, green lawns, and a stadium grandstand. If you're planning to fly a drone here, take note that the park can get very crowded during weekends and holidays.

5. Kip’s Castle Park

The medieval-style castle is a pleasantly surprising sight in metropolitan Newark. Although the castle park has several acres of open space, flying a drone directly over the park can be challenging because of the frequent crowds. If you can manage to get good aerial shots, the castle looks amazing when photographed against the New York skyline.

6. Bailey Park

Bailey Park in Sayreville is quite hidden and not very well-maintained. This small park right beside a lake does not offer gorgeous views, but it is just large enough for some drone flight practice. The park rarely attracts tourists, so you should be able to fly your drone in relative peace.
