Maine State Drone Laws
These laws apply in the entire state.

Maine State Park Policy

  • Prohibits the use of drones in Maine State Parks, Historic Sites, or DACF Boat Launches without guidance or oversight from law enforcement or a Special Activity Permit.
  • Commercial drone use is prohibited.
  • Special Activity Permits may be issued under certain rare circumstances. Requests will be processed through the Parks regional office. Liability insurance is a requirement.

Maine Statutes 25.12.551

  • Regulates and places limits on the acquisition and use of UAVs by law enforcement.
  • Law enforcers must secure a warrant before using a UAV for video or audio surveillance.
  • Establishes minimum standards for the use of UAVs by law enforcement agencies
