Connecticut State Drone Laws
These laws apply in the entire state.

Connecticut Administrative Code Section 23-4-1

Although not explicitly stated in the rules, State Park Rules in Connecticut prohibit the use of drones at Connecticut State Parks, State Forest, or other lands under the control of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. Under State Park rules, any activity that can disturb wildlife, be potentially hazardous, or generates noise is prohibited.

Senate Bill 975 (2017)

No municipality shall enact a regulation on the ownership, purchase, use, or sale of any commercial unmanned aircraft except for municipalities that are also water companies. In such case, ordinances that prohibit the operation of unmanned aircraft over public water supply can be implemented.

Connecticut State Pre-emptions

Connecticut State Legislature maintains pre-emption for all rules and regulations that concern recreational and
commercial drone use.

 

Connecticut State Parks

Prohibits the use of drones at Connecticut State Parks, State Forest, or other lands under the control of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection unless authorized by the Commissioner in a Special Use License.

City and County
Drone Laws
These laws apply in some areas.

Local drone laws in Connecticut refer to policies and regulations that are enacted and enforced at the county, city, or town levels.

 

City of Stamford

  • The Parks and Recreation Commission and Office of Operations may designate and post certain areas within any par of recreational facility for the operation of powered remote-controlled aircraft and/or remote-controlled ground vehicles.
  • The Parks and Recreation Commission may issue a permit for the operation of UAVs by a professional operator, certified by the FAA, for the professional operation of such a vehicle in connection with cinematography, news-gathering, or other authorized professional activities.
  • The operations of remote-controlled aircraft within any area of any park or recreational facility is otherwise prohibited.

Town of Greenwich

The use of motorized toys or models is prohibited in Greenwich parks and recreation areas is prohibited except at times and places designated for such activities by the Director.
