Colorado Springs Drone Flying
Locations Map
1. Royal Gorge Bridge
The nation’s bridges often attract drone photographers, and Colorado’s Royal Gorge Bridge is no exception. There’s plenty of incredible bridge footage around that also takes in the park’s gorge. However, there are now strict no-fly rules in place. Recreational and commercial drone users must check in advance to get the current UAV rules from the park authorities. Some pilots fly models in from outside the park boundaries, but the practice isn’t encouraged.
2. Palmer Lake Regional Recreation Area
This little village park offers a view of the nearby Mt. Herman over the Palmer Lake. It’s a great spot for a relaxing afternoon flying your drone or just walking along its trails. The lake is usually busy with paddleboarders and kayakers, so always check before flying over.
3. Cripple Creek and Victor Gold Mine
The Victor Gold Mine in Cripple Creek is an active, open-pit mine that hosts educational tours. While you likely won’t be able to fly your drone directly over the open pit mine, it’s large enough that you can take nice photos a good distance away. The mine is also surrounded by various mountains and peaks that make for amazing panoramic shots.
4. Monument Rock
Monument Rock is one of the most distinct rock formations in Colorado. With a drone, you can shoot nice photos and videos of Monument Rock at any point along the surrounding hiking trail. The surrounding vegetation and the small lake to the north provide excellent backdrops.
5. Cathedral Pines Trailhead
This hiking trail over relatively flat terrain will take you around the Pikes Peak community. With lots of open, unpopulated space around, the trail offers lots of options for launching your drone. The mountains far in the distance provide great contrast to the flat and relatively arid ground of Pikes Peak.
