How long does it take to become a Remote Flight Instructor?

It takes about 3 - 4 months to earn your certificate. There is an online and in-person component. First, learn how to teach effectively and take the Fundamentals of Instruction of (FOI) FAA exam. Next, learn additional information beyond Part 107 online and take Pilot Institute's exam. Finally, come to Prescott, AZ for 5 days of in-person instruction and verification of skills. We are limiting class sizes to only 8 people, which means each instructor will have only 4 students.

Who can become a Remote Flight Instructor?

To become a Remote Flight Instructor you should:

  • Be at least 18
  • Read, speak, write, and understand English
  • Hold a Part 107 certificate
  • Pass an admission exam with 90% or better
  • Have at least 30 hours of flight time with 3 hours in the last 90 days
