1. Kemah Boardwalk Amusement Park

Along the clear lake shores of Galveston Bay is the 60-acre Kemah Boardwalk amusement park. It’s an exciting, colorful, and vibrant place, considered by many as the country’s best boardwalk. The park is about 20 miles from Houston CBD and very easy to get to. Aside from the amusements, Kemah Boardwalk also boasts some amazing waterfront restaurants and stores. Daily seaside shows and various festivals add to the charm of this happy place.

The attractions for drone users are many. Trinity bay is an excellent place to film the water and surrounding urban landscape safely.

Point to note: Kemah Boardwalk and its local areas can become heavily populated on sunny days. Please be mindful of FAA regulations when flying close to people, especially crowds.

2. Fred Hartman Bridge

This bridge is at the mouth of the San Jacito river as it opens up in the Galvenston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The bridge gets a lot of traffic and you definitely don't want to fly over it. But it does make for an interesting object to photograph. There are several uninhabited islands that surround the bridge on either side.

3. Terramar Beach

Terramar Beach is a Galveston residential and recreational space about 20 miles to the southwest of downtown. The community allows public access to its beach. It’s a popular spot for bird-watching, boat launching, and the local marina. This is a low-traffic location (at the time of writing), making it an ideal place to operate drones. Consider a trip here if you’d like to add breathtaking views of West Galveston Bay and the Gulf of Mexico to your portfolio.

Points to note: Be forever mindful of the Galveston Class D airspace close to Terramar Beach. There are a bunch of City Ordinances for visitors to adhere to as well.

4. George Bush Park

The George Bush Park covers 7800 acres of mostly underdeveloped land used for floodwater storage. There's plenty of land free of obstacles for you to fly around. The Bayou City Flyers RC Club has an airfield nearby if you want to fly model aircraft but you do have to be an member to use their facilities.

5. Schiveley RC Flying Field

This flying field has an runway for model aircraft to use. To use their facilities you need to be a member.

6. SS Selma Oil Tanker Wreck

You don’t need to be interested in ships to be fascinated by the WW1 SS Selma remains. Authorities back in the day moved the concrete ship to the waters north of Galveston. You can see the distant wreck clearly from various viewpoints. Seawolf Park, Galveston, is a popular launch location for drone operators to explore this historical wreckage.
