1. Sand Beach Park

There are some stunning drone-friendly stretches along the Colorado River, and one of those is Sand Beach Park, TX. It has a wide-open green space from where you can operate drones. The attractions for aerial footage are picturesque views of the city skyline and surrounding riverscape. Bridge lovers can get some epic shots here of the James D. Pfluger Pedestrian & Bicycle Bridge that spans over the tranquil waters below.

2. Auditorium Shores

Auditorium Shores Park offers a fantastic location to take pictures of the Austin Skyline, particularly in the evening. This park also offers the ability to film the Congress Street Bats from a safe distance. Before flying at Auditorium Shores however, be sure to check out the music festival schedule to ensure the park is open!

3. Pennybacker Bridge Overlook

Pennybacker Bridge Overlook is so-called because it overlooks the Percy V. Pennybacker Jr. Bridge, or 360 bridge. It’s a beautiful spot, and one with incredible sunsets. However, you need to hike up a rocky bank to access the viewpoint. Still, the short 10-minute scramble is well worth the effort. Moreover, you’re also rewarded with open sights of the surrounding green, wooded hills and a 360-degree view of downtown Austin.

Point to note. The opposite side of the Colorado River (Lake Austin) is a no-fly zone. Please familiarize yourself with the local airspace restrictions before you fly.

4. Lake Travis

Lake Travis is a well known lake on the west side of Austin. A number of parks along the lake provide excellent viewing of the lake, Mansfield Dam, and other surrounding attractions. Bob Wentz Park, Jones Brothers Park, Mansfield Dam Park, and Arkansas Bend Park all provide great views of Lake Travis.

5. Miruna Park

Miruna Park is part of the Windy Point Park that sits along Lake Travis in Austin TX. It’s a pretty spot, popular for its clear blue waters and picturesque scenery. Visitors come here to relax, enjoy picnics, and camping. Drone pilots love this location to shoot footage of the stunning 18,930-acre lake and surrounding landscape. The sunsets can be especially magical.
