Sioux Falls Drone Flying
Locations Map

1. Harmodon Park

Harmodon Park is basically a baseball and softball complex, so it's not always available for leisurely drone flight. On the days when there are no games, however, you can fly your drone around to your heart's content. The fields are always well-maintained and are great backdrops for your aerial videos.

2. Terrace Park

Terrace Park, also known as Phillips Park, is a mid-sized park on the shores of Covell Lake. Aside from the usual walking trails and playground, the park features a Japanese Garden with stone architecture and Japanese vegetation. The ampitheater at the park's north side, as well as the lake shores, provide enough room for drone flight.

3. McKennan Park

This is a busy park that's in many ways the heart of the city. Not far from downtown, it has wide open spaces that make it easier to takeoff and land.

4. Arc of Dreams

This beautiful sculpture is worth visiting if you want to practice your photography and videography skills. It's on the banks of the Big Sioux River right next to downtown Sioux Falls. You do need to get permission from the FAA to fly here.

5. Falls Park

Falls Park has something for everyone. Aside from the usual open fields and walking trails, its main highlights is the powerful falls cascading down interesting rock formations. This park is very popular - it draws crowds of tourists, and there may even be outdoor performances during the summer. This means that you need to deliberately visit the park in the early mornings if you want to safely fly your drone around. In any case, the falls are impressive regardless of the time of day.

6. Valley of the Giants Trail

The Valley of the Giants Trail is quite a drive away from Sioux Falls but is well worth the effort. The trail takes less than an hour to traverse but will take you through diverse and wonderful sights including gigantic trees, small cliffs, and a riverfront area. The park already gets dark in the early afternoon because of the trees, so plan accordingly. The old growth forest is a sight to behold with a drone.

7. Good Earth State Park

One of the newer state parks in San Diego, the Good Earth State Park has a huge network of trails and is large enough that you will hardly find a crowded area. The wide open space heading to the Big Sioux River is a prime spot for drone flight. The park is still somewhat of a 'hidden gem' right now, so it's best to take advantage of it.
