Drone Laws
These laws apply in some areas.

Local drone laws in South Carolina refer to policies and regulations that are enacted and enforced at the county, city, or town levels.

City of Charleston

Many of the rules of the Charleston City Code mirror the federal regulations. However, there are a few restrictions that are unique:

  • Drones are not allowed to operate within one-quarter mile of any school property while the school is in session, hospitals, parks, recreation facilities, sporting events, road races or walks, outdoor festivals, fireworks shows, stadium, public gathering of more than 50 people, moving vehicles, highways, bridges, or busy streets.
  • Drones with cameras must always fly at least 200 feet away from a person, vehicle, building, or structure.
  • The names and addresses of the drone owners/operators must be affixed to the outside of their aircraft.

NOTE: Although there is a proposed amendment that creates Section 21-115, it seemingly has not been signed or passed into law.
