1. Fred G. Bond Metro Park
Fred G. Bond Metropolitan Park is a 310-acre recreation space in Cary, North Carolina. It’s a much-loved spot with locals and out-of-town visitors. The park has over four miles of scenic trails that follow the contours of the beautiful Bond Lake. There are also designated sporting fields, boating, and fishing spots. Camera drone users are spoiled with postcard views of the tree-lined lake and its diverse, surrounding landscape.
2. Big Field at Dorothea Dix Park
Big Field at Dorothea Dix Park is a lush, 35-acre public meadow. The terrain has flat areas that give way to gentle slopes lined with pine groves and mature oak trees. It’s a popular recreation space for families, friends, and dog walkers to congregate. The park is also a drone-friendly zone. Aerial photographers get incredible footage of the surrounding countryside and distant city skyline. Sunrise and sunset are perfect times to film with the soft light and long shadows.
Point to note: Drones are welcome at Big Field at Dorothea Dix Park, but check before you go. The park hosts different events during the year and prohibits drone operations during those times.
3. Multipurpose Field at Spring Forest Road Park
Spring Forest Road Park is a massive field suitable for a wide range of recreational activities. The area we’re interested in is the Multipurpose Field, which is a designated drone-friendly space. It’s a great place to practice flying and improve aerial photography skills. However, other visitors to the park can share the space, so pilots must be mindful of that.
Point to note: The park hosts events throughout the year and may rent out the Multipurpose Field for functions. When that happens, drones are prohibited from flying, so always check first.
4. Sugg Farm at Bass Lake Park
The Sugg Farm parkland used to be farmland before it became an area to host special events. It also connects to Bass Lake Park, a popular recreation spot for locals. The bit we’re interested in is the smaller field off to one side. Park authorities designated this area as a safe space for drone users. Aerial views of the green fields, mature woodlands, and Bass lake do not disappoint.
