Omaha Drone Flying
Locations Map

1. Twin City Eagle Squadron RC Field

The Twin Cities Eagles Squadron RC Field runs a flying field just east of the Spring St. Bridge and across the Missouri River (Point to note: Searching for this in Google Maps will point you to the wrong location. Refer to the location we have pinned here.) You will need to be an AMA member to fly your drone here.

2. Jewell Park Mountain Bike and Hiking Trail

Jewell Park is primarily a biking spot that attracts more experienced bikers because of its advanced trails. Drone pilots can veer away from the trails to more safely fly their drones. This is a very densely forested area, though, so your flight skills have to be on point.

3. Linoma Lighthouse

Despite Nebraska not having any seaports, the Linoma Lightouse has become one of its more interesting historical landmarks. The lighthouse itself may not be visually spectacular, but it is right beside a large beach and campground, not to mention the nearby Platte River. The campground can get crowded with people and boats, so always be wary of flying your drone over crowds and bystanders.

4. Omahawks RC Club – Hawk Field

The Omahawks RC Club has the unique distiction of being the largest AMA-chartered RC Club in the Midwest. Those who wish to join the club can benefit from use of the club’s field in Hawk Field. The club also has regular activities geared towards training and education of their members, so signing up is certainly worth considering.

5. Mile Hill Lake

Mile Hill Lake in Iowa is only a short drive away from Omaha. It is a fairly small lake surrounded by mountainous terrain. The lake park is rarely crowded, so it should be easy to find a spot for safe drone flight.

6. Hitchcock Nature Center

The Hitchcock Nature Center is a frequent getaway for those are into hiking. With numerous trails and diverse terrain, it will take several trips to fully explore this massive park. Drone pilots need only to find a wide open space to launch their drones and fly around the nature reserve.

Some readers have mentioned that park rangers do not allow drone flight in Hitchcock Nature Center. To avoid problems, it would be best to get in touch with part authority prior to your drone operations.

7. Walnut Creek Recreation Area

This lakeside recreation area is popular for fishing and boating, although the walking and biking trails also attract a sizable crowd. There are lots of open spaces around the lake where you can fly your drone safely and with no fear of flying over other park visitors.
