New Orleans Drone Flying
Locations Map

1. Brechtel Park

Louisiana’s 110-acre Brechtel Park is a welcome retreat away from the city of New Orleans. It’s also a favored spot for bird watchers due to the lagoon, mature trees, and lush vegetation. There are plenty of recreational facilities for park visitors, i.e., picnics, camping, hiking, etc. It’s a delightful place to fly drones, but always be vigilant of the migrating bird traffic.

2. Algiers Point

Algiers Point is close to downtown New Orleans in Louisiana and an ideal spot to fly drones. It sits on the lower Mississippi, which is a real working river. You can capture some incredible footage of the huge cargo boats, the ferry terminal, and the amazing city skyline. The only drawback is that Algiers Point can be quite blustery at times. It’s a good idea to check the weather ahead of time if you plan to film and photograph.

3. Laketown Fishing Pier

Laketown sits on the shores of the massive Lake Pontchartrain that covers 403,200-acres. The Laketown Fishing pier with a water backdrop makes stunning aerial drone footage. The surrounding green space offers ample launch and land sites to operate drones. It’s especially captivating if you shoot the scenic views during one of the legendary red-orange sunsets.

4. Crescent Park

Crescent Park is one of the best drone launch spots if you want to capture spectacular views of the Mississippi River. This long stretch of open park space has lines of trees, walking trails, and several art installations. At night, the city skyline makes the river even more worthy of aerial shots from your drone.

5. Bonnabel Boat Launch

The Bonnabel Boat Launch is a very popular spot in New Orleans for fishing and other watersports. If you can get here in time for the sunrise, the view across the bay is sublime. You should be able to launch your drone safely from the dock, but make sure to do so away from any wildlife.

6. Fontainebleau State Park

Situated along Lake Pontchartrain’s northern shores is the 2800-acre Fontainebleau State Park. This Mandeville recreation space was once a sugar mill. The crumbling ruins of that old structure are part of the attraction. You can fly and film with drones here. The only problem is knowing where to start as there’s so much to explore. You may even want to pitch a tent in the campground for a few days or settle into one of the picturesque lakefront cabins

Those into action activities can use follow-me drones to record themselves cycling, hiking, or Inline skating around the vast park. Other points of interest for drone pilots are the old railroad track, nature trails, sandy beach, and the multi-colored sailboats. The list goes on.

7. Sankofa Wetland Park and Nature Trail

The primary purpose of this wetland park is to absorb storm water and help avoid land subsidence. It has a rich ecosystem full of trees and wildlife, but it’s not exactly picturesque. Drone pilots may be interested in flying aroun the wetland park simply because it is rarely crowded. There aren’t a lot of excellent sights but the wide open space more than makes up for it.
