1. Lake Olathe
Launching your drone from the Lake Olathe Park is a great way to capture all the best angles of Lake Olathe. The park may be small, but the lake is huge enough to freely and safely fly your drone. During autumn, the red trees surrounding the lake provide great contrast to the clear lake waters.
2. Charles W. Reed Flying Field
Lee’s Summit in Missouri is home to the Charles W. Reed III Flying Field. The 49th Mid-America Jumbo Squadron and Kansas City RC Association manage the property. The field sits adjacent to the breathtaking 970-acre Lake Jacomo in the heart of Fleming Park. Charles W. Reed III Flying Field is one of the more attractive clubs from a scenic perspective. The lake and surrounding views offer some incredible aerial video opportunities for members.
The club itself boasts a 500ft asphalt-pathed runway and a 25ft grass runway. The site also has low safety fencing and a sheltered area with bleachers for its members.
3. Minor Park
A former privately owned farm that was donated to the City, Minor Park is known for its tennis courts, picnic grounds, walking trails and wide open fields. The Old Red Bridge is one of its most memorable spots. The diverse environments and open space are more than enough reasons to bring your drone along on a trip to Minor Park.
4. Longview Lake
The man-made Longview Lake is a popular spot for swimming and other water sports. Surrounding the lake are vast grasslands and rich vegetation. This is an amazing spot to spend a quiet afternoon or to fly a drone around for fun. Take note that there have been many incidences of park rangers issuing tickets to visitors for violations. It will best to check with them before launching your drone.
5. Platte Landing Park
The 104-acre Platte Landing Park in Parkville, MO, is a new addition to the city. There are plans to develop it still further when funds become available. The areas of focus include the riverfront wetland habitat and a sports field. For now, visitors can enjoy over 2-miles of hiking trails, off-leash exercise areas for dogs, and a boat ramp. Park authorities allow drones, so you can capture some amazing views of the Missouri River here and the surrounding landscape.
6. Jacob L. Loose Park
The historical Jacob L. Loose Park is well-known for its lush trees, rose garden, beautiful pond, and wealth of open areas. It’s usually pretty crowded so finding a safe spot to fly your drone can be a bit of a challenge. Fortunately, the park is so large and so beautiful even from afar that you can also explore the possibility of flying your drone just right outside the park boundaries.
7. Wyandotte Park
The Wyandotte County Lake Park boasts of 1500 acres of wooded area and the 400-acre Wyandotte County Lake. Looking for a safe spot for you to fly your drone here should not be a problem. This park is an excellent spot to catch the sunset but it offers plenty of photo opportunities all day and all year.
