Your Drone in Indianapolis

The 128-acre Garfield City Park is in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is the oldest in the state’s capital. Lovers of tropical plants can find a variety of species in the conservatory building. Other places of interest are the 1914 European-inspired sunken gardens and three spectacular water features. The latter boasts memorizing fountain displays produced by thousands of water jets and bright LED lights. The park has lots of exciting spaces for camera drones to explore.

Nest-RC Field is a short distance outside Indianapolis in Noblesville City, Indiana. It’s a well-run and well-cared-for airfield, managed by North-east Side Taildraggers RC Aviation Club. The great thing about this place is how it accommodates drones and all other types of R/C aircraft. It even has drone-designated take-off/landing areas. New applications are always welcome, but you must have an AMA membership before you can fly here.

American Legion Mall is a war memorial park that spans 5 city blocks. It’s a fascinating site for drone operators who like less conventional scenes. The main attraction is the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza, built to honor WW1 veterans. The structure stands 210ft and overlooks the plaza below. There are other noteworthy historical monuments to photograph and film here too. Pilots film here out of personal interest or to compile impressive school projects.

Military Park in Indianapolis covers 14 acres of green space and is busy year-round. It’s the go-to place to enjoy the many festivals and other events hosted by park authorities. People also come here to enjoy the scenic Canal Walk and to visit the Medal of Honor Memorial. The park landscape has plenty to explore and lots of space for drone pilots to fly and film.

Taggart Riverside Park offers a welcome escape from everyday city life. It boasts wide-open green spaces with lots of amenities, including a boating lake. The two-forked White River flows near the gardens, adding further to the park’s scenic appeal. Drone operators have much to discover and the potential to capture some less conventional scenes here.

The White River that runs north-south across Indianopolis has several great spots for drone filmmaking. With lush trees on both sides and healthy wildlife, each flight along the White River offers something unique and different. The Taggart Riverside Park is a popular take-off spot for flying over the White River but it’s easy to find equally good spots within Indianapolis.
