1. McKay Bay

Bays often hold a special fascination for a lot of drone photographers, and Florida’s McKay Bay in Tampa is no exception. It’s northern shore sports some wide-open green spaces, ideal for flying drones and capturing the nearby scenery from above. The fishing pier extends into the bay, giving drone pilots some incredible opportunities to record arresting footage.

2. Sunset Park, St. Petersburg

Sunset Park offers visitors gorgeous views from the waterfront and surrounding spaces. It’s a quiet park, so drone users are urged to choose their flight paths carefully around other visitors. There’s plenty of remote launch and land sports in the wide-open green spaces. These are lovely views, but inexperienced pilots should be mindful of the park’s many trees.

3. Dunedin Causeway

The Dunedin Causeway is a great spot to launch your drone and avoid crowds. If you’re looking for the best spot to catch the sunset with a drone shot, then this causeway is an excellent choice. Flying a drone over the sound also gives a nice view of the nearby beaches and marinas.

4. Plant Park, University of Tampa

Plant Park is a botanical garden steeped in Victorian history, in the University of Tampa campus. The peaceful riverfront has lots of open green space to launch drones, though you do need prior permission to fly at the time of writing. See here for details. This idyllic park offers some amazing opportunities for creative drone photographers. You can take in the picturesque modern Tampa skyline contrasted against the timeless calm of the park.

5. Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park

The Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is a very popular destination recreation area in Tampa, both for locals and tourists. If you can avoid the many crowd-drawing events held in the park, you should have enough space to fly a drone around. The park provides a great view of the nearby museums, bridges, and the Hillsborough River.
