1. Hickory Point Recreation Park

The 62-acre Hickory Point Recreation Park opened its doors to the public in 1992. It’s a go-to spot on Lake Harris in Tavares city for lovers of waterfronts. The lush green spaces and lake views from the boardwalk are almost dreamlike in low light. There’s a lot of room at this 14000-acre park for drone users. Some of the photographic points of interest include the park’s wooded areas, sandhills, shimmering waterscapes, and local wildlife.

2. Tangerine Field

Tangerine Field is a dedicated AMA airfield that welcomes all RC aircraft enthusiasts, including drone pilots. The field is easy to find, and only a short drive outside of Orlando. The site spans some 50 acres and features an asphalt pit area, runways, and taxiways. It’s a fantastic place to meet with other RC aircraft hobbyists who share the love of flying.

The field is well-equipped and includes the following conveniences for members: Electric power, Covered Shelter, Battery Chargers, Bleachers, Clubhouse, Camping, Barbeque Grill

The facility has easy parking and even picnic and spectator areas for visiting family and friends.

NOTE: Active membership is a requirement to fly on this field. AMA’s section on Tangerine Field does not specifically mention that multirotor flight is allowed here, but permits fixed wing and radio control devices.

3. Bill Frederick Park

The best thing for drone pilots in the large Bill Frederick Park is the fact that it has a dedicate drone flight zone. This makes it one of the safest places to practice drone flight in Orlando, especially for new pilots. When you’re done flying your drone, you can take a peaceful stroll in the park’s walking trails or go bird watching beside Turkey Lake.

4. Sanford Aero Modelers

AMA-chartered Sanford Aero Modelers runs an RC flying field a short drive NE of Orlando. You will have to be a member of the club to use this field and that comes with the associated dues. In exchange, you have access to a safe flight practice spot and the shared expertise of the club’s members.
