Locations Map

1. South Pointe Beach

South Pointe Beach is probably the best spot for drone flight in Miami Beach because of its location at the far end of the beach away from the crowds. It’s not any less beautiful – you can still capture shots of the white beach, pristine blue waters, and the surrounding skyscrapers. This is also a great spot for catching sunsets.

2. Peacock Park

This urban park is typically crowded because of various sports activities, but the boat dock to the Biscayne Bay should be a safe spot to launch your drone. From here, you can use your drone to take photos of Virginia Key and Key Biscayne off into the distance.

3. Bayfront Park

One of the most scenic parks in Miami, Bayfront Park has walking trails, biking trails, lots of shops, and numerous ferris wheels. The best view of the park is off the bay and through the camera of a drone. It is at night when the park truly comes alive. If you can get drone shots of Bayfront Park at night, then it will certainly be an experience to remember.

4. Pier Park at Sunny Isles Beach

Sunny Isles Beach in Florida is home to Pier Park, a favorite location for camera drone enthusiasts. From here, you can fly out into the Atlantic Ocean and look back at the spectacular views of the skyscrapers lining the beach. It’s worth noting that the area has some helicopter activity, so drone pilots must be vigilant and adhere to safety rules.

5. Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse

On the northern side of Hillsboro Inlet is the historic Hillsboro Inlet Lighthouse, built in 1906/7. The 136ft tall construction sits firmly on a 3-acre piece of land. One of its claims to fame is when it was featured on a 37¢ US postage stamp in 2003. Another interesting fact is the lighthouse beam, which is the third most powerful on the planet.

The 28-mile beam is not what attracts drone operators, though. It’s flying and filming around the lighthouse at dawn or dusk that offers the real scenic opportunities for aerial photography.

6. Markham Park Airfield

The 50-acre Markham Park Airfield exists so that RC pilots can fly their aircraft in safe and controlled airspace. It has a 755ft paved runway and even a windsock. Still, the runway is not part of the airfield drone operators need to concern themselves with. Even so, you must have an AMA card to take out an annual membership here, but it’s well worth it.

Benefits of Markham Park Airfield membership
A membership brings lots of like-minded folks together. It lets you share your hobby with others and pass on tips and suggestions. Markham Park Airfield also provides members with a covered facility for shelter and to work on the models. There are even restrooms and a drinks machine on site. Being a dedicated model airfield also means it’s not exposed to changes in local drone rules and regulations like public spaces in and around cities and state parks, etc.
