1. Monte Sano State Park

The 340-acre Monte Sano State Park is a short drive away from downtown Huntsville. With numerous hiking trails and a large camping ground, drone pilots have a lot of options for exploration, flight practice, and aerial photography. On a clear night, the lights of downtown Huntsville can be visible with a drone launched from the campsite.

2. Rocket City Radio Controllers

The AMA-chartered Rocket City Radio Controllers RC Aircraft Club operates a field just along Leeman Ferry Road south of central Huntsville. You will need a full AMA membership as well as membership to the club to be able to fly on this field. The club is very accommodating to hobbyists and beginners.

3. Limestone Bay

The Limestone Bay or Limestone Creek is a 45-mile-long tributary of the Tennessee River. Flying out a drone to the bay gives you a great view of the surrounding foliage and the skies reflected on the pristine, calm water. We suggest launching your drone from the east boat ramp away from the controlled airspace of Hunstville International Airport.

4. Lost Sink Falls

If you’re up for a hike, then the Lost Sink Falls in the Keel Mountain Preserve can be a unique spot for drone photography. One to two hours of hiking along the Lost Sink trail opens up to the cavernous waterfalls. The Lost Sink falls is relatively less popular than other waterfalls in Alabama. Combined with a tough hike, there’s a good chance to have this spot all to yourself.
